John Holler, Jr., was the first son born to John. John, Jr. was one of the three children who remained in North Carolina when most of the others moved to Indiana. Many of his descendants are probably still living in Catawba County, North Carolina. John, Jr., was born in 1783, shortly after his father John Sr. arrived in Rowan County. John Holler Jr. married Sally Sigsmen. John, Jr., died intestate, on October 8, 1837 at the age of 52; he is buried at St. John's Lutheran Church.

15. Andrew Holler Sr. (John10, Zachariah1) was born about 1794 in Catawba Co., North Carolina and died in 1870 about age 76.

Andrew Holler, Sr., must have been born about 1794 according to the U.S. Census. As mentioned previously, we do not know if Margaret Low was his mother. She may have been the mother of all of John's children and they did not post a bond or announce their marriage vows until 1794. John may have been married to another woman who died in childbirth in 1794, the year that Andrew was born. We have not been able to find any marriage records of John and his first wife. According to family stories, John Holler married a Sally Shue. We searched for a marriage record in Pennsylvania but could not find anything. We did find a John Holler who was married and had children, working in York county in the early 1780's but there were other Hollers living in York county at that time. We translated from the German a will of a John Holler of York county but could not relate him to our John Holler.

Because we could not find Andrew, Sr.'s birth record or will, we have had to rely on other sources of information, including the U.S. Census, land transactions and documents concerning the Bolick family. Unlike his father or brothers, Andrew signed his name with an "X" on one of his land transactions. He appeared as a witness to a will by Jacob Bolick, dated February 1, 1823 and probated January 1826 in Lincoln County, North Carolina.

Andrew, Sr., married Polly Bolick; the date of their marriage is unknown. They had eight children:

Andrew Jr., born in 1817 and later married Lovina Miller in 1838
Israel bom in 1818 and married Annie Lennier in 1838
Lawson born in 1819 and married Annie Miller September 30,1841
Franklin born in 1826, and married Rebecca Danbey (Franklin later mov ed to Watauga
County, North Carolina, where some of his descendants are living today)
Nancy (married Andrew Townsend)

Ruferie born in 1830
Elizabeth Bettie (married George Mitchell)

Andrew married Mary "Polly" Bolick. Mary was born about 1780 and died about 1860 about age 80.

23. Israel Zachariah Holler (John10, Zachariah1) was born 28 Jan 1811 in Rowan/Iredell Co., North Carolina, died 8 Jul 1879 in Brown Twp., Washington Co., Indiana at age 68, and was buried in Saltillo Cemetery, Indiana.

Israel Zachariah Holler was born 28 Jan, 1811, in Rowan/Iredell Co., North Carolina, the second youngest son of John Holler and Margaret Low. When he was only 2 years old, his father moved the family to Ohio for 4 years, then on to Washington County, Indiana. With them went his 3 older brothers, Zachariah, George, and Absalom, and his older sisters, Elizabeth "Betsy", Catharine and Christiana. While the family sojourned in Ohio, Anna and Isaac were born. Israel was perhaps 6 years old in 1817 when they settled down around Brown Township, now known as Jefferson Township, near Saltillo, Indiana. In 1818, a younger sister, Margaret was born, but died at a young age. As a young son of a farmer, he probably helped his father to clear the land of trees and large rocks, plow the fields behind an oxen or donkey, and help sow and harvest the crops.

Israel married Susan Miller when he was about 22 years old. There is an Orange County marriage record showing a marriage between Israel Holler (born in NC) and Susan Miller (born in Indiana) on 22 Aug 1833. Susan would have been 20 at the time. Years later, there was some confusion as to the identity of Israel's wife. Someone had posted on the Internet that her name was Susan Case. Bob Yankle, a descendant of Israel Holler, posted the following Email on the Rootsweb Genealogical site to correct this situation:

"Several Web sites have shown Israel Holler, son of John Holler and Margaret Low being wedded to one Susan Case. This is NOT the case. I have before me a copy of the original recording in the Orange County, Indiana official records of the marriage between Israel Holler and Susan Miller (born in Indiana), for a wedding date of 22 AUG 1833. My second cousin was trying to document her bloodline for the DAR, and the reference to Susan Case was very misleading. Actually, Israel's son, Isaac was married to a Case (Lucinda Ellen), but Susan Miller is the lady buried next to Israel in the Saltillo Cemetery in Indiana."

The next documentary evidence we have of Israel Holler is his mention in John Holler's will. There are two lines that mention his name: 1) "and I further direct that my sons Zachariah Holler, George Holler, Israel Holler, Absalom Holler and my daughters Catharine Elizabeth and Ann have an equal portion of my estates hereby bequeathed to them at my decease except as herein directed .... " ; and later, 2) "and as for my son Israel Holler I have paid him in full in land and he has received in full of his portion of all my estates except one dollar before the date hereof;". I find this last sentence to be provocative. All his older brothers and sisters had received modest amounts of inheritance money minus certain named deductions that had been paid by John Holler while he was yet alive, yet Israel was only to receive $1.00! Actually, I don't take this as a snub of Israel - while I haven't done the research to confirm this, I believe that John Holler left most of his land to Israel upon his death. His older brothers had probably bought their own farms in Washington County, and had settled down there with their own families while Israel remained behind to help his father. I note that Israel, Susan, his son, John Wesley Holler and John's wife, Margaret (Roberston) are all buried together in Saltillo Cemetery, very close to where the Holler farm may have been located. No mention is made of Isaac Holler in John's Will.

The 1860 census for Brown Township, Washington County, Indiana lists Israel Holler, age 49 (born in NC), occupation: Farmer, and Susan Holler (born in Indiana). Their son, John Wesley Holler, age 20, also appears in the same census, working as a Hired Transient in someone else's household.

Israel Holler died 8 July 1879 and was buried in Saltillo Cemetery. Two years later, Susan died and was buried next to him. Israel's Epitaph lists his age as 68 Yrs. 8 Mo. 29 Days, while Susan's reads 68 Yrs. 1 Mo. 20 Days
