29. Robert Palmer YANKLE (Harold Frederick9, Henry J. W.2, Frederick1) was born on 16 Apr 1922 in Flint, Michigan, died on 2 Apr 1997 in Interlochen, Michigan, at age 74, and was buried in 1997 in Interlochen, Michigan.
Robert lived in the Civic Park area of Flint,
Michigan. He attended Civic Park School and graduated from Northern High School
in 1940. He served in the Army-Coastal Artillery Corp, stationed in Africa,
Sicily, and Italy. After the war, he managed the VFW hall in Flint. He then
worked at the A.C. Division of General Motors for 33 years and retired in 1977.
He was active in the Tall Pine Council of the Boy Scouts. Upon retirement, he
moved to Interlochen, Michigan, where he was active with the Redeemer Lutheran
Church, Golden Fellowship Commission on Aging, and the Interlochen Public
Library. Robert was an avid gardener. He died April 2, 1997.
** Notes on Robert Yankle by his son, Robert P. Yankle II **
The notes above are a fine thumbnail sketch, but they miss a lot. Dad was a
natural born leader who usually got his way. Sometimes, however, when he didn't
get his way, he'd get angry and leave. That didn't apply to his family life
though ......
My memories of my father are firmly based in the Boy Scouts of America, Tall
Pine Council, in Flint, Michigan. He was the Scoutmaster of Troop 280 at Gundry
Elementary School, which had another troop, Troop 208, run by our next door
neighbor. Dad worked at the A.C. Spark Plug Division of General Motors, also
known as "Generous Motors" because they put so much money into
scouting. I've noticed from the Family Tree that Dad's father, Harold Yankle,
and my Uncle Dick were all involved in the scouting movement. Dad was instrumental
in starting Horten Lake Camp (later known as Camp Holaka) in Lapeer Michigan,
close to Flint, Michigan. He paid (from his own pocket) to send me to the Camp
Director's Course to gain my certification to be a Camp Director. That
foresight paid off the next summer when the fellow who was slated to be the
Camp Director that summer left scouting, and I filled the vacancy. My father
was an excellent instructor, teaching his troop to camp, cook, tie knots, and
do first aid, skills which I carry to this day.
Dad wasn't much for demonstrating affection. We respected our father, usually
out of the fear of being severly spanked if we went up against him. He had a
fear of flying, and would have missed my second wedding to Lynne Chapman if
Aunt Marge hadn't agreed to drive to Virginia Beach for the ceremony. He did
make it, though, and served as my Best Man.
Re his fear of flying, Dad told me his own father, Harold, took him up in an
open-cockpit airplane when he was just a boy. The pilot did a roll-over and my
father was falling out of the airplane until his Dad reached out, grabbed him
by the belt, and hauled him back into the plane. I can see where that might
have been traumatizing!
In the last years of his life, my Dad and I finally talked as equals. He held
my daughter, Aubrey, on his lap and read out loud to her when I told him that
she loved stories. He and Mom had found a new vacation spot in Paradise,
Michigan in the upper peninsula, and he was even planning to move up there.
Events caught up with him, though, and he died before he could put those plans
into action.
From the Yankle Chronicle, February 2004:
Robert Palmer Yankle was born April 16, 1922, in Flint, Michigan, the oldest
son of Harold and Marian (Palmer) Yankle. He was the first of the Fourth
Generation of Yankles, all of whom still lived in the state of Michigan. It was
this generation of Yankles, however, who would first move to other states. Bob
grew up in the Civic Park area of Flint and graduated from Flint Northern High
School in 1940.
Very soon after graduation, Bob was inducted into the Army and saw service
during WWII. He served in Northern Africa, Sicily, and Italy.
Shortly after the war ended, Bob met and married Evelyn Lauryne Holler, who
lived in Flint, Mi. They had 4 children, Bob, Svona, Kathryn, and Glenn Yankle
and lived in Flint, Michigan until he took early retirement from A.C. Sparkplug
and moved to Interlochen, Michigan in 1977.
Bob was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scoutmaster
of Troop 280, and as an active member of a number of Tall Pine Council planning
committees. He was a natural born leader and planner. This desire to be
actively engaged in community affairs carried through to his retirement as
well. He took leading roles serving at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Golden
Fellowship, the Commission on Aging, and the Interlochen Public Library.
Bob enjoyed gardening and he and Evelyn had the most beautifully landscaped
gardens in their neighborhood. Only months after his 50th Wedding Anniversary,
Bob died of esophageal cancer, exactly 2 weeks shy of his 75th birthday.
Robert married Evelyn Lauryne HOLLER on 14 Sep 1946 in Flint, Michigan. Evelyn was born on 9 May 1921 in Flint, Michigan.
b. May 9, 1921. Evelyn was born in Flint, Michigan
to Glenn L. and Anna Marie (ASMUSSEN) HOLLER. Evelyn has one older sister,
Dorothy. Her father was a tool and die maker and her mother was a salesperson
prior to marrying her father. The family lived in the Mott Park area of Flint.
She attended Durand Elementary and Longfellow Jr. High Schools. She went to
Central High School and graduated in 1939. Evelyn worked as a Service
Representative of Michigan Bell Telephone. She and Bob met at a Valentine's Day
dance. She married Robert P. YANKLE on Sep. 14, 1946, in Flint, Michigan. The
couple had four children and lived in the Northwest area of Flint, and then,
Interlochen, Michigan. Evelyn works at the Libary in Interlochen and loves
gardening, ceramics, and crocheting as hobbies.
** Evelyn's comments on her mother and father, Glenn and Anna Marie Holler: **
Both my parents were workaholics. They never took a vacation because, as they
averred, "Vacations are for rich people". Both of them were cold, and
never gave me or my sister a hug or compliment.

From the Yankle Chronicle, January,
2004:
Margaret Marian Yankle was born May 5, 1924, in Flint, Michigan, the second
child and only daughter of Harold and Marian (Palmer) Yankle. Her older
brother, Bob, was 2 when Marge became his baby sister. She, in turn, was to
become the "older sister" to her brother, Dick.
Marge grew up in the Civic Park are of Flint and graduated from Flint Northern
High School in 1943.
Within a year of graduation, Marge enlisted in the Navy and became a Wave. Both
of her brothers were in the Army during World War II. It was while she was in
Hunter College in New York in 1944, undergoing military indoctrination, that
she met Eva Culbertson, who was later to marry her brother, Dick. They became
fast friends, and remain so even today.
Two years after the war ended, Marge married Duane Wernette, who she had known
before she joined the Navy. They were married September 9, 1947, and
subsequently had 4 children: Craig Allen, Marcia Lee, Renee Sue (who died as an
infant), and Wesley Duane Wernette.
Duane Wernette was a hunter and an outdoorsman, and often the Wernettes would
join the Yankle family to go camping or meet at Flushing Park for a Family
picnic. They also celebrated their Christmases together.
Duane died December 6, 2001 in Goodrich Michigan as a result of Alzheimer’s
Disease. Marge lives in Burton, Michigan, about a mile from Dick and Eva, and
visits her daughter, Marcia, in Chapperal, New Mexico from time to time.
Margaret married Duane WERNETTE on 9 Aug 1947 in Flint, Michigan. Duane was born on 24 Jul 1925, died on 6 Dec 2001 in Goodrich, Michigan, at age 76, and was buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc, Michigan.

31. Richard Harold YANKLE (Harold Frederick9, Henry J. W.2, Frederick1) was born on 28 Jul 1925 in Flint, Michigan. Another name for Richard is Dick YANKLE.
Richard ("Dick")
lived in the Civic Park area of Flint, Michigan. He attended Civil Park School
and graduated from Northern High School in 1943. He served in Army Artillery
Corp where he was wounded in World War II. He worked for the City of Flint
Department of Public Works. He retired from the City in 1978. He is an avid
golfer and enjoys bowling, outdoor activities, and telling jokes.
From the Yankle Chronicle, March 2004:
Richard Harold Yankle was born July 28, 1925, in Flint, Michigan, the youngest
son of Harold and Marian (Palmer) Yankle, son of Harold, grandson of Henry
J.W., and the great grandson of Frederick and Henrietta Yankle. He is the
oldest surviving Yankle male.
Dick grew up in the Civic Park area of Flint and graduated from Flint Northern
High School in 1943.
Dick was inducted into the Army and saw service during WWII. He served briefly
in the campaign to take Aachen, Germany until he took a piece of shrapnel in
the leg. At the time Dick remembers wondering if he might be shooting at
distant cousins who still lived in Germany.
After the war, Dick married Sybil Renfro in 1946 and began raising a family
that included 3 children, Cindy, Cathy, and Dick. They were divorced in 1953.
Dick met his second wife, Eva Culbertson, through his sister, Marge. Eva and
Marge were good friends in the Navy during WWII. Dick and Eva became very fond
of each other and married in May of 1973. They have two children, David and
Steven.
Dick worked as the Supervisor for Street Maintenance, Department of Public
Works in Flint, Michigan, for most of his life. He was the scoutmaster of the
Boy Scout Troop at Brownell School for 5 years. Dick likes to golf, shoot the
bow, tell jokes, and converse with old friends.
Eva likes to read, go the spa, and sew - each newborn Yankle receives a
hand-sewn quilt from Eva.
Dick and Eva celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a surprise party held
in Davison, Michigan in 2003.
Richard married Mary Sybil RENFRO , daughter of Unknown and Unknown , on 25 May 1946 in Flint, Michigan. Mary was born on 20 Mar 1928 in Anderson, Indiana.
Noted events in their marriage were:
• Divorced: 1953.
b. Sybil was born in Anderson, IN on March 20,
1928. Her parents were William Henry RENFRO, b. Feb. 12, 1906, d. Dec. 24, 1974
and Mildred Jamayme (CRUMBAUGH) RENFRO, b. June 10, 1909, d. Nov. 8, 1984. They
were married on July 3, 1926, both are buried in Oroville, CA.
Sybil was the second of fourteen children. She met Richard YANKLE when the
family moved briefly to Michigan. Sybil married Richard on May 25, 1946 in
Flint, MI. They had three children Cynthia Ann b. March 15, 1947, d. Oct. 28,
1976, Cathy Elaine b. June 23, 1949 and Richard Harold YANKLE II b. July 3,
1950. The couple were divorced in 1953. Sybil lived in several California
cities and currently lives in Fallon, NV. with Cathy (YANKLE) ROBERTS.
Children from this marriage were:

44 F i. Cynthia Ann YANKLE was born on 15 Mar 1947 in Flint, Michigan, died on 28 Oct 1976 in Fallon, Nevada, at age 29, and was buried in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Flint Township, Michigan. Another name for Cynthia was Cindy YANKLE.
Cynthia ("Cindy") was born in Flint,
Michigan, where she lived alternately with her father and her mother, who
lived in California. She graduated in 1965 from Northwestern High School as
part of the first class to graduate from what was, then, Flint's newest high
school. Cindy lived in Hawaii for several years. She was an avid reader and
had a great sense of humor. Her interests included art, photography, and travel.
Cindy married Thomas Gomez in 1967, in Oakland, California. She was divorced
later that same year. Cindy died in 1976 in the state of Nevada. She is buried
at the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint Township, Michigan, adjacent to her
grandmother Marian (PALMER) YANKLE, in plot Section 11, Row 121, grave #4.
From the Yankle Chronicle, January,
2004:
Cynthia Ann Yankle was the first "Baby Boomer" child to be born in
the Yankle family subsequent to World War II, the first in the Fifth Generation
of Yankles, and the first great, great grandchild of Frederick and Henrietta.
Cindy was born March 15, 1947, in Flint, Michigan, the first child of Richard
and Sybil (Renfro) Yankle. A sister, Cathy, and a brother, Richard II (Dick),
would soon join her. The children lived in Flint for a few years, but when
Sybil divorced Dick Yankle, she moved the children to California.
Some years later, Cindy and her brother, Dick, returned to Michigan to live
with their father and his second wife, Eva. Cathy stayed with Sybil in
California. Cindy got along very well with her step-mother and called Eva her
"second mother". By this time, the brothers, Dick (Cindy's father)
and Bob Yankle (her uncle) had moved to the Northwest corner of Flint and
bought houses only 4 blocks away from each other. Although Cindy was only 9
months older than her cousin Bob (Robert Yankle II), she was a year ahead of
him in school. The two families, together with the family of Marge (Yankle) and
Duane Wernette, were close.
As an adult, Cindy moved to Hawaii and earned her living as a taxicab driver
for a time. During this period, her Grandmother, Marian Yankle visited her.
Like her Grandmother, Cindy suffered from partial deafness, and wore a hearing
aid. As Marian's first Grandchild, it is natural that Cindy held a special
place in her Grandmother's heart. She and Cindy would be close for the rest of
their lives. Today, they are buried next to each other in Sunset Hills cemetery
in Flint, MI.
Cindy also met Danny Yankle in Hawaii, but under trying circumstances. Danny’s
house had just been robbed, and he thought Cindy might have been misleading him
by claiming to be Family, so he asked her to leave his home. Years later, Danny
met his second cousin and Cindy's Dad, Dick, at an Owosso High School reunion.
He apologized profusely for the mistake. As far as we know, the meeting of
Cindy and Danny in Hawaii is the first recorded instance of a meeting between a
descendant of Henry J.W. and a descendant of John Ezra Yankle.
Cindy later moved to Fallon, Nevada, and was married for a short time to Thomas
Gomez, but divorced him within a year.
Cindy died 1976. For those of us who knew her, well, we miss her still.
+ 45 F ii. Cathy Elaine YANKLE was born on 23 Jun 1949 in Flint, Michigan.
+ 46 M iii. Richard
Harold YANKLE II was born on 3 Jul 1950 in Flint, Michigan.

Richard next married Eva Dean CULBERTSON on 27 May 1953 in Burton, Michigan. Eva was born on 12 May 1924 in Erick, Oklahoma.
b. May 12, 1924, Eva was born in Erik, Oklahoma to
Robert Emmett and Pearl (RIGGS) CULBERTSON. She was the second child and had
one brother, Hansford Leon "Toby" CULBERTSON, d. 2001. Eva and the
family lived on a farm in Erik, Ok. until 1939 when they moved to California.
Eva attended school at Ventura High School in Los Angeles. In 1949 she married
James David BAIN, but he died in 1951 from a work related accident. During
World War II, Eva was in the Navy as a WAV, serving at San Diego, CA.
While in the service, Eva met Margaret YANKLE and the two became friends. After
the war Eva came to Michigan to visit Marge, during which visit she met Marge's
brother Richard H. YANKLE. After James death, the two kept in contact. They
were married in Flint, Michigan in 1953 at Marge and Duane WERNETTE'S home.
They had two children together, David and Steven YANKLE. The family lived in
Flint until 1977 when they moved to Burton, MI. Eva worked at the Bank of America
in California and at Michigan National Bank. Her hobbies include sewing and she
is active in her church.
Children from this marriage were:
+ 47 M i. David
Scott YANKLE was born on 13 Jan 1956 in Flint, Michigan.

48 M ii. Steven Brian YANKLE was born on 6 Jun 1959 in Flint, Michigan.
Steven Brian Yankle was born June 6, 1959, the
youngest child of Richard Harold and Eva (Culberston) Yankle. As of 2004,
Steven has 3 siblings: Cathy Elaine and Richard Yankle II, which are his
half-sister and half-brother by his father's former spouse, Sibyl (Renfro), and
David, his full brother. As a young boy, Steven lived in the Northwestern part
of Flint, Michigan, where he participated in many family gatherings. Later
(1978) his father moved to Burton, Michigan, and Steven attended Atherton High
School where he graduated in 1979. Thereafter, Steve attended the Genessee
Skills Center where he learned how to be a Welder's Assistant.
According to his Dad, it was Steve who located the grave-sites of Frederick and
Henrietta Yankle. Although Dick knew, in general, where his grandfather was
buried, it was Steve who scouted out the cemetery site and brought back news
that he'd found his (Steve's) great, great-grandfather's burial markers.
Steve works at the Kroger store in Davision, MI., as a front-end clerk. He
drives a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix G.T., and takes special delight in washing and
detailing cars until they look perfect. He is also a good bowler. Steve lives
with his parents, Dick and Eva Yankle in Burton, MI. He states that he is
looking forward, anxiously, to meet the other members of the family at the
Family Reunion in 2004 at Owosso, Michigan
32. Marlowe Allan YANKLE (Arthur Henry24, John Ezra7, Frederick1) was born on 8 Feb 1926 in Owosso, Michigan, died on 24 Nov 2000 in Daphne, Alabama, at age 74, and was buried in Memory Garden of Fairhope.
Marlowe Allan Yankle was born February 8, 1926, in
Owosso Michigan, the only child of Arthur and Frances Yankle. His parents would
later adopt his cousin, Beryl, so that he grew up with an adopted sister.
Marlowe moved with his family throughout the state of Michigan as his father
pursued several divergent careers. At one point, Marlowe became the manager of
a Family drive-in restaurant in Otsego Michigan.
During the Korean conflict in the 1950s, Marlowe served in the Merchant Marine.
Upon the completion of his tour of duty, he settled in Mobile, Alabama, working
for the Civil Service at Berkley Field as a facility supervisor. There, he met
Lillian "Tinker" Muntz and conducted a whirl-wind romance. They met
in June and were married in August of 1964. They were married in a small
ceremony at the home of a mutual friend, the same friend who had introduced
them months earlier. Marlowe had been married twice before, but had never had
any children with his former spouses. That changed.
Traci Renee and Marlowe Allan Yankle II were born in March, 1967 and April,
1970, respectively. Traci remembers that her Dad liked to travel a lot in a
mobile home, visiting up and down the east coast, California, Michigan and
Florida. They remained very close with Beryl, who had married Robert Quarry,
and their children; he visited Danny Yankle, and was especially fond of
visiting Barney and Helen Yankle who had settled in Florida. Barney was like a
second father to him after he’d lost his father at a relatively young age (46).
Lillian is a championship bowler, loves to play cards and other games, and
spend time with her grandchildren. She currently lives in Daphne, Alabama. She
had worked as an office manager at International Paper in Mobile, Alabama.
Marlowe suffered a severe accident which caused trauma to his head and required
that he have both kneecaps replaced. Later, he blamed this accident as the
root-cause for an incident of Parkinson’s Disease, which finally took him in
November of 2000.
Marlowe married Lillian Josephine MUNTZ on 9 Aug 1964 in Mobile, Alabama. Lillian was born on 18 Feb 1930 in Mobile, Alabama.
Lillian ("Tinker") Muntz was born February 18th, 1930, to Rudolph and Lillian Muntz, in Mobile Alabama. She married Marlowe Allan Yankle August 10th, 1964 in Mobile, Alabama, and had two children, Traci and Marlowe Allan Yankle II. Lillian is currently retired and lives in Daphne, Alabama. She loves spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards, and Yahtze. She has the reputation of being a "card shark". She and her sister, Dorothy Pepper, are the only living Muntz siblings, and they spend many hours enjoying each other's company.
Children from this marriage were:
+ 49 F i. Traci Renee YANKLE was born on 10 Mar 1967 in Mobile, Alabama.
+ 50 M ii. Marlowe
Allan YANKLE II was born on 10 Apr 1970 in Mobile, Alabama.

33. Beryl Elaine YANKLE (Arthur Henry24, John Ezra7, Frederick1) was born on 27 Jun 1930 in Midland, Michigan.
From the Yankle Chronicle,
April 2004:
Beryl Elaine (Brink, Yankle) Quarry was born June 27, 1930, the natural daughter
of Russell Brink and Mary Louise Blanchard. At a very early age, however, she
was adopted by Arthur and Irene Yankle, and was given the Yankle name by her
adoptive parents. Her cousin, Marlowe, became her brother.
That relationship remained very close, and today, Marlowe’s daughter, Traci
(Yankle) Kaibel feels a very close affinity to her Quarry cousins, although
she’s not seen them in quite a while. One of the earliest road trips that
Marlowe took his family on was a trip to Michigan to see Beryl and her family.
Traci is hoping to make up for lost time at the Family Reunion in July.
It was Beryl who provided most of the information about the family of Arthur
and Irene Yankle, of her uncle, Richard Yankle, and her brother, Marlowe,
during his youth. She and her older cousin, Barb Yankle would often sneak into
the local movies together (“sneak”, because neither of their parents quite
approved of young girls going to the movies). They met on many other occasions
at family gatherings. Barb and Beryl just recently got in touch with each other
after many years.
Beryl met her future husband, Robert Quarry, while working in a drive-in
restaurant managed by her brother, Marlowe, in Otsego, Michigan (where they
still live today). They married in 1948 and had seven children: Maria (1949),
Roberta (Bobbie) (1950), Steve (1952), David (1954), Terry (1955), Sharon
(1956), and Robert, Jr. (1959).
Beryl married Robert George QUARRY , son of Unknown
and Unknown , on 9 Oct 1948 in Otsego, Michigan. Robert was born on 27
Oct 1928 in Allegan, Michigan.
Children from this marriage were:
+ 51 F i. Maria Ann QUARRY was born on 16 Aug 1949 in Plainwell, Michigan.
+ 52 F ii. Roberta Lynn QUARRY was born on 31 Dec 1950 in Plainwell, Michigan.
+ 53 M iii. Steve Allan QUARRY was born on 12 Aug 1952.
54 M iv. David Gary QUARRY was born on 23 Feb 1954 in Midland, Michigan.
+ 55 M v. Terry Lee QUARRY was born on 24 May 1955 in Plainwell, Michigan.
+ 56 F vi. Sharon Dale QUARRY was born on 10 Sep 1956 in Plainwell, Michigan.
+ 57 M vii. Robert
George Quarry JR. was born on 21 Jan 1959 in Plainwell, Michigan.

34. Daniel Richard YANKLE (Barney August26, John Ezra7, Frederick1) was born on 18 Mar 1930 in Owosso, Michigan and died on 25 Dec 1999 in Apple Valley, California, at age 69.
Daniel lived in Owosso, Michigan during his youth,
graduating from Owosso High School in 1948. He attended Michigan State
University and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State in
Political Science. He received a Master's Degree in Education Administration
from Pepperdine University. He entered the United States Air Force in 1951, retiring
in 1974 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He and his family were stationed at several
bases throughout the United States. He flew F-94, F-89, F-101, and F-4
aircraft, flying over 200 combat missions in Viet Nam. Dan obtained his
teaching credentials in 1978 and taught for five years after retiring from the
Air Force. He received a Real Estate license and sold real estate for ten
years. He had traveled frequently over the western United States in a motor
home. Dan died on December 25, 1999.
** Notes on Daniel YANKLE by his 3rd cousin, David YANKLE *
"In memory of Dan YANKLE, who provided the majority of the information
listed for this part of the family tree. Our time together was short, but I'm
much richer and blessed for it."
** Notes on Daniel Yankle by his 2nd cousin, Richard Yankle, father of Cindy
Yankle **
While Cindy was living in Hawaii, she found a Yankle listed in the local phone
book. She tried to contact Dan Yankle, but was rebuffed. It seems that Dan's
house had just been broken into, some valuable property was stolen, and he
thought she was some sort of scam artist, following up on the heist. Years
later, Dan Yankle contacted Richard Yankle and apologized.
It just proves a point: If your name is Yankle, chances are, you truly are
related to us.
From the Yankle Chronicle, March 2004:
Daniel Richard Yankle was born March 18, 1930 in Owosso, Michigan, the oldest
child of Barney and Helen (Sanders) Yankle. A little more that a year later, a
sister, Barbara Jean Yankle would make it a family of four.
As a young man, Danny loved hot cars and road trips. That wasn’t to change
much, throughout his whole life. The love of cars didn’t detract from his
education, however. He attended Michigan State University, and received a
Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University in Political
Science. Later, he received a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from
Pepperdine University.
For the majority of his working years, Danny served in the U.S. Air Force as a
pilot. He flew a number of jets, and served as a decorated aviator, receiving
the Distinguished Flying Cross for service in Vietnam in 1969.
It was while he was serving in Portland, Oregon, that he met Helene Cunningham,
a U.S. Air Force Nurse. They were married in March, 1958 and spent the next 16
years moving from base to base throughout the United States. Danny retired from
the Air Force in 1974, and settled in Apple Valley, California.
Helene hails from the state of New Jersey. Shortly after their marriage, Helene
resigned her commission to raise a family. She and Danny have 3 children, Mary
K., Susan, and Dan Yankle.
Helene is still actively involved in raising children as she frequently
baby-sits for the children of Mary K. and David Young. She is an avid reader,
and loves to sew and make things with her hands.
After the service, Danny received his teaching credentials and taught
Elementary school. He also tried his hand at Real Estate for 10 years.
Danny and Helene attended Danny’s High School reunion in Owosso, Michigan, where
he met his 2nd cousin, Dick Yankle (Sr.) That meeting began a collaboration of
sharing family histories that eventually led to the upcoming Reunion. Alas, in

From the Yankle Chronicle, February, 2004:
Susan Margaret Yankle is the second child and youngest daughter of Daniel and
Helene Yankle, granddaughter of Barney Yankle, great-granddaughter of John Ezra
Yankle and great, great granddaughter of Frederick and Henrietta Yankle. She
was born Sep. 29, 1960, the middle child between her older sister, Mary K. and
younger brother, Daniel A.M. Yankle.
As a young girl in a military family, Susan moved with her family every time
her father received new orders while serving in the U.S. Air Force. At various
times, she has lived in Panama City, FL., Dayton, OH., Nevada, CA., Alamagordo,
NM., Oahu, HI., and Apple Valley, CA. The family finally settled down in Apple
Valley, and it was from here that she graduated from High School in 1978.
Thereafter, Susan attended California State at San Bernadino and received a
B.A. in English in 1995. She put the degree to good use as she now teaches 4th
grade at an Apple Valley elementary school.
Susan bought a 1968 house on Myalon street in Apple Valley, and lives there
with her two dachsunds, Fifi and Missy. She has a swimming pool in the back
yard, where she engages in water aerobics from time to time. When she has the
time, Susan likes to exercise, do needlepoint (especially while watching a good
football game), and read - fiction, Natural Science, and Educational books. We
weren't kidding about the football games: Susan picked up the habit of watching
football several boyfriends ago, and hasn’t lost interest yet. She especially
likes the Raiders, Green Bay, and the Broncos when John Elway was still there.
By the way - Susan is still eligible, but she’s holding out for Mr. Right.
Susan and Bob Yankle have talked about collaborating to write the Family
History in a narrative format.

35. Barbara Jean YANKLE (Barney August26, John Ezra7, Frederick1) was born on 27 Nov 1931 in Owosso, Michigan.
Barbara Jean (Yankle) Starck was born November 27,
1931, in Owosso Michigan, the second child and only daughter of Barney and
Helen (Sanders) Yankle. Barb had an older brother, but Danny was only 1 1/2
years old when she was born. Barb and Marge Yankle never met as children and
Barb admits that she didn’t even know she HAD a second cousin in Flint, or that
another Yankle family lived so close by.
Barb relates that her childhood was a happy one, even though she grew up in the
depression. Her father, Barney encouraged them to invent games for themselves,
with the materials they had at hand. Barb says she didn't realize they were
poor since everyone else in Owosso was in the same circumstance.
Barb graduated from high school in Owosso, MI, then attended college at Central
Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, MI., for two years enrolled in a teaching
curriculum. Before she could graduate, however, she got married for the first
time and quit school.
Barb was married three times. With her first husband, Robert Banghart, Barb had
a daughter, Peggy Banghart, who was born June 19, 1954. She later married
William Vekovius, then J.J. Starck. J.J. was her last husband, but died in
2001.
Barb developed a love for the ocean very early in her first marriage. When
driving back from a vacation one year, Barb determined that she was going to
purchase a piece of land in Florida before she crossed the state line.
It just so happened that she saw a man clearing out a stretch of beach, so she
stopped and asked if he would sell it. When he agreed, Barb told her husband
what she wanted to do, but he wanted nothing to do with it. She then told him,
"OK, when we get back to Michigan, I’m going to get a job so I can buy it
for myself." Since he didn’t want his wife to work, he capitulated, and
bought the property.
Barb spent a good portion of her life working for the American Red Cross, in
positions ranging from volunteer, to instructor, to Administrative Staff, to
Branch Manager. She says that she is at her best when there is some local
emergency and she can organize a recovery effort.
Barb lives with her daughter, Peggy, in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL., in a home that
she designed herself. She relates that she drew what she wanted, then had an
Architect finish the plans and submit them for approval. After it was built,
her second husband, Bill, didn't particularly like it at first. They lived
elsewhere at the time, but eventually the place "grew on him" and
they moved into the home on the beach at a time when it was a very remote piece
of property. Since then, the town has grown considerably. Barb calls her house
a "dream come true", and continues to cherish her home by the sea.
Every night, she, her two dogs and a cat go for a walk by the ocean. They’re
probably out there tonight.
Barbara married J.J. STARCK .
Barbara next married Robert BANGHART on 17 May 1951.
