Rasmus Jorgensen emigrated to Germany by ship or boat from Norre Broby, Denmark in about 1760. He probably landed at Flensburg and somehow worked and walked his way about twenty miles southwest to West Bargum where he got work on Nis Oltzen's farm. Nis Oltzen died in 1764 and on Nov 28, 1766 Rasmus married the boss' daughter Agatha Nissen. They had two children, Jurgen, named after his father Jorgen, and Nis, named after her fater. Rasmus changed his first name to Asmus for some reason. Some people said it was because Rasmus was more of a Danish name and he wanted to be all German.
